My regular followers on social media know how much I love a good cup of coffee. When I went off to University, I took some coffee filters with me, together with my white Kenwood kettle to sit together in a corner in my bedroom in catered halls.
However, it was when I was 21 years old and living and working in Paris that I started to drink proper espresso based coffee every day. My friends and I used to take a double espresso together in the work bar after sitting and enjoying a delicious (and subsidized) cooked lunch together every day. Those were the days!
Since then, however, I have been unable to drink anything but good quality fresh coffee. If it’s not on offer, I’d rather go without – I shudder at the thought of instant. But it’s always hard making the perfect coffee at home without the faff. I did have a proper machine for a while, but it required so much effort to make a coffee, and involved a fair bit of cleaning, too. Something simple is in order for good coffee every day. There are two ways in which I like to make coffee at home quickly and easily and which allow me to change the variety of coffee I drink. First, is using a ceramic filter cone. This, I bought from Monmouth Coffee, and I make individual cups of coffee using the ground coffee and a paper filter. For an even easier option, I like to make a cup at a time using a Nespresso machine and pods from Gourmesso.co.uk. I even take a stash of pods in my bag with me when I travel, so I know I have a decent cup of coffee to hand.
